Common Welding Defects of Construction Steel Wheel Rims are mainly the following:

Cracks, holes, solid inclusions, lack of fusion and incomplete penetration, shape defects and other defects.

1 Cracks: Under the combined action of welding stress and other brittle factors, the metal atoms in the local area of the weld joint are destroyed, thus forming a new interface and causing a gap.

2 Holes: Including pores and shrinkage holes, crystallization shrinkage holes. Crystallization shrinkage holes are long shrinkage holes formed in the center line of the weld during the cooling process of the weld. There may be residual gas in it. This defect usually appears in the direction perpendicular to the weld surface.

3 Solid inclusions: solid inclusions remaining in the weld metal.

4 Lack of fusion and incomplete penetration

5 Shape defects: The surface shape of the weld is a deviation from the original design geometry.

6 Other defects: A) Arc scratches B) Spatter C) Surface tearing D) Wear marks E) Gouge marks F) Excessive grinding G) Positioning welding defects H) Interlayer misalignment.

Welding defect prevention measures:

Stress elimination: such as shot blasting and grinding the steel ring to remove rust, dirt and reduce welding stress.

Post-weld treatment: including post-weld heat treatment and post-weld mechanical treatment. Post-weld heat treatment, such as: wheel rim, first weld and then heat treatment to reduce welding residual stress. Post-weld mechanical treatment, such as: grinding weld.

Human factors and climate factors: Due to different skill levels and proficiency of welders, welding defects of different forms or quantities are generated. At the same time, welding defects are also affected by different design skills.
